Should GM food producers be requested to voluntarily label their GM foods?

Background and context

Significant debate surrounds the genetically modified foods. And, even more debate surrounds the labeling of such foods. While many propose the mandatory labeling of these foods, other propose a more modest approach, which includes the voluntary labeling of such foods. Is this good public policy?
