Import threatened industries
Steel, textile, and agricultural industries are all part of this class of industries. They are industries whose domestic markets are threatened by competition from abroad in the form of imports. The threat is typically greatest for import-threatened industries in the developed world, as foreign competition often has the advantage of lower wages, allowing for the production of cheaper goods, which compete effectively. Import threatened industries often take similar positions on issues regarding international trade and trade agreements, as these issues often affect import-threatened industries in similar ways. Free trade is the typical issue at hand.
