Should India get a permanent UN Security Council seat?

Background and context

In a rapidly changing world order, there have been voices calling for reforms in the premier multilateral organisation to truly reflect the changing world scenario. India, world's second largest growing economy and the largest democracy, has pressed its claim for a permanent seat in the Security Council. India, after gaining independence from the British in 1947, has made rapid strides forward on the social and economic front. Though it has a long way to go to eradicate poverty and feed millions of hungry citizens, its progress has been reasonably satisfactory. India's role in engaging with other nations has also been praised, and its policy of Non-Alignment during the Cold War and non-interventionism have been well received. India has been seeking USA's support to initiate the Security Council reforms for quite sometime, and is hopeful that it will ultimately get a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
