Are nuclear-power space rockets a good idea?

Background and context

One of the most expensive elements of space travel is getting into space, and the large amounts of fuel that are required to do so. Nuclear propulsion has been proposed as a way to get around using massive quantities of rocket fuel, cut costs, and reduce the environmental impact of each launch.
