  • It is fairly well known that William the Conqueror was an illegitimate child, such as have never been allowed to rule England since well before his day to the present. We do not necessarily condone such discrimination as no one can choose their parents, but this rule of inheritance, despite having stood in other cases, seems to have been ignored in his case.
