  • Saving lives is worth red-tape of background checks. Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington, argued in 2007: "In most states, it's harder to get a job at McDonald's than it is a gun. The American people would be willing to put up with a little more red tape if it stops some of the yellow crime-scene tape."[1]

  • Dangerous people should be arrested background checks unnecessary. Erich Pratt, spokesman for Gun Owners of America, said in April of 2007: "Our view is that if someone is a danger to themselves or society, as apparently many people thought Cho was, then he shouldn't be on the streets."[2]

  • Blackmarket gun sales is bad excuse to not do background checks. John Rosenthal. "Requiring Background Checks for All Gun Sales is Just Common Sense" Huffington Post. July 12, 2007: "Clearly, some criminals will still buy guns illegally on the black market. That's an unfortunate fact. But just because bad people exist doesn't mean that we should just give up and do nothing to stop criminals and terrorists from buying and selling weapons to each other. A reasonable uniform national law would help prevent access to guns by criminals and terrorists, and make it much simpler for law enforcement to convict the bad guys who buy, sell and use guns illegally."
